Tips for Building Your Capsule Wardrobe
Before I get started, I wanted to drop a few little tidbits below for you to keep in minding when thinking about how to style the pieces.
Stick to a Color Palette: Choosing 2-3 base colors (neutrals like black, white, and beige) and 2-3 accent colors (like mustard, teal, or coral) usually are a recipe for fashion success, so I always try and to stick to a specific palette.
Quality Basics are our Friend: Quality doesn't mean you have to break the bank but even on a budget, if you can, prioritize quality over quantity. These pieces will be interchangeable and your wardrobe’s foundation, so you want them to last.
Celebrate Your Uniqueness: Fashion is soo subjective and you'll never get 100 people to agree on the same trend so always be you regardless of trends. Incorporate pieces that reflect who you are as a person. Those unique accents will always solidify a look.
Now with those quick tips out of the way let's jump into some of my favorite pieces for this Spring season.
1. The Perfect White Button Up Shirt
A crisp white button up is a wardrobe KEY 🔑 . It’s the ultimate any weather, layering piece pair it with jeans, tuck it into a skirt, or wear it open over a tank. I love wearing a linen white button up over a cute bathing suit, it screams chic sexy. When searching look for breathable fabrics like cotton or linen for spring.
If you're looking for a classic cotton white button up, I would start here.
I'm a girly who loves different materials even in my foundation pieces. This silk button up and this textured top, both can be dressed up or down depending on occasion.
2. Wide-Leg Trousers
You'll soon learn that at my core I love a good oversize bottom and tight top so Wide leg pants are a personal favorite. Effortlessly chic and flattering for all body types these pants if made correctly rarely are a bad look. For me I love to opt for earthy tones like olive, tan, or rust to complement my deeper skin tone.
Loose Fitted Pleated front Wide leg pants- The perfect wide leg trouser to go from day to evening with minimal effort.
Casual Wide Leg Pant- This is the perfect vacation or casual linen pant that can be worn multiple places.
3. A Statement Midi Skirt
Ok, I know y'all are like Aya, Girl where is the color, well here it is! A flowy midi skirt in a bold print or vibrant color is a must. It’s perfect for any type of setting whether it be brunch dates, work meetings, or casual strolls.
Satin Midi Casual Skirt- perfect with a pair of heels are your favorite sneakers. The outfit options are endless.
4. A Lightweight Trench Coat
We all know April showers bring May flowers and spring weather can be unpredictable, so a lightweight trench is both practical and stylish. You will never miss with a classic beige but I would spice it up with a pastel hue like this Chrisuno Light Pink Trench.
5. High-Waisted Jeans
A good pair of high waisted jeans is non negotiable. I love a medium wash that pairs well with everything, it takes the guessing game out of what to wear to make the outfit pop.
Straight Leg High Waisted Medium wash jeans- These have a little tummy control because lets be real we all could use that help at some point. ☺️
6. Footwear
I debated adding shoes because that could very well be a post in itself but I wanted you to leave this blog with a full outfit in mind so let's talk about spring shoes. As the weather heats up and the son makes its return so do the pedicures. Show off that nail shop visits with cute strappy heels look for blocked heels to continue to thrive this season. Comfortable flats and I have a love, hate relationship. I can clearly remember in HS wearing them everyday till they had been walked through and the horrible feel of them if you ever got caught in the rain so I've been slower to this trend. But ballet flats have come back with vengeance and I will admit still are such a cute edition to an outfit. Make sure to grab a pair this season for a simple, sophisticated look.
Modatope Platform Heels- Would gorgeous with a Maxi dress headed to dinner, or a day party.
Women's Flat Sandal- A cute non heel option. Throw on with a pair of wide leg trousers or jeans and accessories and you're good to go.
Mary Jane's Leather Flat - Mary Jane's are one of the few shoes that can translate from child to adult and still be deemed cute. the daintiness of the shoe makes it perfect for most outfits.
Ok, I think I got you off to a great start! Spring is your runway, sis. With these pieces, you’ll be ready to show stop in style whether you’re sipping iced lattes at a café, dancing at a spring festival, or simply living your best life. Remember, fashion is an extension of your essence, so wear it boldly and unapologetically.
Now, go forth and slay the season! 🌸✨
